Why Photography?

As children grow up, they often say things like “I can’t draw,” “I can’t dance,” or “I can’t sing.” But it’s not often you hear a child say, “I can’t take a photo.”

Photography is a simple and fun way for children to start exploring their thoughts, feelings, and the world around them. It’s easy to get started, no matter your ability or background, and with smartphones and tablets, it’s more accessible than ever. Everyone can have a go!

Taking photos can also help children express themselves in a creative and safe way. It can open up conversations in the classroom, build confidence, and support emotional well-being. For younger children, photography offers a gentle way to share how they feel, even if they don’t yet have the words to explain it. It can be especially helpful for those who are shy, anxious, or find it hard to express themselves in more traditional ways.

Photography can also link to many other areas of learning, like reading, writing, and maths.
